Pair of French faience plates titled as follows:
Innocence et Fidelite
La Danse
Decorated with charming transferware images, one of a little girl and dog representing innocence and faithfulness, the other of a girl dancing. Both plates are marked on the underside stamped in black: L. Lebeuf Montereau. Transferware was first developed in England. English potters brought the technique to France where it reached new heights of perfection. Zoom into photos to appreciate in detail. Louis-Martin Lebeuf (1792-1854) purchased the Creil Montereau faience works in 1840 and was its director until his death. Montereau was a village in north-central France. Perfect to decorate a child's bedroom, as a gift or similar.
Measurements: 8 1/2" diameter (21.5 cm) approximately.
