An exceptional pair of antique Minton cabinet plates featuring a rich brown mottled tortoiseshell glaze, gilded rims, and an elegant arabesque border surrounding finely hand-painted botanical reserves. Marked on the underside with the impressed MINTONS mark used after 1876 and a cross-in-square date cipher identifying the year 1884.

These plates were produced during Minton's celebrated late nineteenth-century period when several Sèvres-trained artists worked under the direction of renowned Minton Art Director Leon Arnoux. Their sophisticated design reflects the influence of the English Aesthetic Movement and the Anglo-Japanese taste that was highly fashionable during the Victorian era.

The pair is particularly well suited for display in an Aesthetic, Anglo-Japanese, Victorian, traditional English, eclectic, or grand millennial interior.
