These brown mottled tortoiseshell glaze cabinet plates feature gilded rims and an arabesque design around a central reserve adorned with finely hand-painted botanicals. The plates are marked on the underside with an impressed MINTONS mark used after 1876 and a cross in a square date cipher, indicating the year 1884. They were crafted during the firm's heyday when several Sevres-trained artists collaborated at Minton under the guidance of its longstanding Art Director, Leon Arnoux. This pair of plates is perfect for decorating an Aesthetic-style interior or serving as a unique gift for a porcelain enthusiast. The pattern is exceptionally rare, and we have never seen another example. Their most recent provenance is from a prominent Long Island North Shore estate, and they are in very good condition with crazing typical of earthenware as shown.
