David Roberts, R.A.
London. Published by F. G. Moon, 20 Threadneedle St, Nov 7th, 1844.
David Roberts R.A. (1796 - 1864), a distinguished Scottish painter, is renowned for extensively documenting the landscapes, architecture, and daily life of the Middle East and surrounding regions. As a member of the Royal Academy, Roberts achieved significant success in his lifetime. Another version of this plate, by Louis Haghe after David Roberts, is housed in the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Louis Haghe (1806-1885), a Belgian watercolor painter and printmaker, collaborated closely with David Roberts on a series of lithographs depicting scenes from Roberts' travels, particularly his journeys to the Middle East, including Egypt. Haghe was responsible for translating Roberts' sketches and paintings into lithographic prints, thus making them accessible to a wider audience, including Queen Victoria, subscriber number one, who possessed a complete set that is still part of the Royal Collection. In very good condition with minor imperfections as shown. It comes nicely matted and framed, ready to display.
