This charming vintage pastel drawing captures a picturesque riverfront scene, featuring three small figures in black and white attire, a traditional Rabelo boat with a striking red sail, and classic Portuguese architecture. The Rabelo, a historic wooden cargo vessel, was used on the Douro River to transport Port wine from the vineyards to Vila Nova de Gaia — the heart of Portugal’s port wine industry.
The artwork is signed and dated in the lower right: F. J. Percy, 1932. Please zoom in on the photos to fully appreciate the fine details.
The piece comes matted and framed, ready to display. On the reverse is a partially legible label from Newman Galleries, 1625 Walnut Street, Philadelphia.
