18th C. Early Worcester First Period Porcelain Dish Dr. Wall Powder Blue Mock Chinese Mark
A beautiful and rare example of Early Worcester porcelain, this First Period porcelain plate features a fan-paneled landscape design on a richly applied powder blue ground—a technique adapted from Chinese porcelain and first used by Worcester around 1760. The powdered cobalt was delicately blown through a straw onto the oiled surface, after white panels were masked for painting. This meticulous process results in a stunning contrast between the blue ground and the finely detailed hand-painted panels.
The dish is also painted with underglaze blue sprigs on the underside and marked with a seldom-seen mock Chinese character mark used by Worcester during the 1760–1770 period.
A truly special piece for collectors, decorators, or anyone passionate about antique English porcelain.
