Hand-tinted and signed “Bouchot” on the plate in the lower left margin.

The scene humorously depicts a gentleman courting a young lady while her mother chaperones. In a playful attempt to flatter the older woman, he remarks, “You two could be sisters,”—a line that gives the piece its title. Another version of this print, with a different color scheme, is held in the collection of The Getty Research Institute and dated to the 1830s.
