Lovely pair of antique English bronze candlesticks bearing a design registration dated June 2, 1863. Graceful in proportion and solid in weight, they are perfectly suited to intimate, softly lit settings — a cozy dinner table, a mantel vignette, or a quiet reading corner. Their warm patina and sculptural, medieval-inspired detailing bring depth and character to English country, Gothic Revival, and Arts & Crafts interiors.
The registered 1863 design reflects the Gothic influence present in English decorative arts of the period, when craftsmanship and honest materials were increasingly valued.
Manufactured by W. Tonks & Sons, a respected Birmingham brass foundry established circa 1794, the firm was known for architectural hardware and art metalwork and later supplied decorative objects to Liberty & Co.
Marked underside: Reg. June 2nd, 1863, W. Tonks & Sons.
In good condition with minor imperfections, as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking.
