Striking English aquatint engraving commemorating the coronation of King George IV, specifically the grand ceremony known as The Homage, which took place inside Westminster Abbey on 19 July 1821. The composition features the newly crowned king seated in regal splendor, surrounded by kneeling peers and clergy within the soaring architectural backdrop of the Abbey.
The inscription below reads:
"The Ceremony of the Homage, 19th July 1821. Architecture Augs. Pugin. Figures J. Stephanoff. William James Bennett Sculpst. Published as the Act directs Jany. 1824 by Sir George Nayler, Garter."
This engraving is based on the work of James Stephanoff (c.1786–1874), a British artist known for his depictions of historical pageantry and state occasions and was engraved by William James Bennett (1787–1844), a respected British-born engraver. Examples of this aquatint are held in the collections of The British Museum and the UK Parliamentary Art Collection.
