Wall Street Trinity Church framed, limited edition, silkscreen pencil signed and numbered Ardis Hughes 63/225. The church's Gothic Revival architecture is portrayed in sharp contrast with the surrounding financial district buildings, and the statue of George Washington standing on the right. Ardis Hughes (b. 1912 Rhinebeck, NY - d. 2009 St. Augustine, FL) was a 20th Century American artist. He graduated from Pratt Institute in New York in 1934 and started out as an illustrator for Esquire magazine. He was in the service between 1942 and 1946 and was assigned by the Treasury Department to create war bond posters. In 1945 he was sent to Paris to do artwork for the army. There he witnessed first-hand and painted Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), the end of World War II in Europe. Ardis Hugues work is part of the permanent collection of the Brown University Museum and the New York State Military Museum.
