We really don’t handle much Mid-Century Modern furniture but believe this may be a Baumritter chair. Baumritter was a predecessor to Ethan Allen, and their Mid-Century Modern furniture is quite collectible. The gait of the chair, the webbing for the seat, and the overall design are consistent with other Baumritter chairs that we’ve handled in the past. If not Baumritter, this may be from a Danish company. All of the big names in modern like Poul Jensen, Finn Juhl, Paul Mccobb, George Nakashima, Hans Wegner etc. all had their own versions of lounge chairs or easy chairs. One unique feature of this chair that we’d like to point out is the uncommon oval shape of the horizontal elements of the chair. On most MCM chairs that we encounter it’s either a round dowel or a flat board used for the crest, whereas this is almost an amalgam of the two. The design is reminiscent of an early American comb back Windsor chair, and the presence of the upper crest really elevates the chair to a superior level. Another feature that is easy to overlook in our photos is the slight chamfer on the inside edge of the arms which appears to be more uncommon than we originally expected. The chair is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor surface wear & minor finish loss on the edge of the arms. The chair is quite comfortable, and because the cushions have a zipper, the covers can be easily taken off and washed. The seat measures 21” wide at the narrowest point between the arms x 21” deep to the back cushion. There are 3 very small slits on the striped side of the larger cushion that we have highlighted in our photos. The overall dimensions of the chair are 30” wide x 33 1/2” deep x 38” tall. See less
