Richly detailed and hand-painted, this decorative wall panel by Maitland-Smith uses trompe-l’œil painting to recreate the appearance of an antique European tapestry on wood.
Executed with an intentionally antiqued crackle finish, the panel features an elaborate floral and medallion composition surrounded by richly patterned borders. The layered colors, painted textile effects and aged surface give the piece the visual character of an Old World tapestry while retaining the architectural presence and durability of a wood panel.
