Sheffield crafters have been making knives for over 700 years and some of the company names are considered the top of the line makers in the world. Amongst the best is E.Parker & Sons. Sheffield is synonymous with steel and is the historic birthplace of knife making. In Sheffield the word cutlery refers to “that which cuts” The first reference to a Sheffield cutler dates to 1297. In the 1370s, Chaucer described a Sheffield 'thwitel' (a straight wooden-handled knife) on the belt of a Miller in The Reeve's Tale. This set of knives come with great history and are becoming more collectible as they become harder to find. A wonderful set of cutlery when serving any types of meat and especially steak! See less

The blades have scratches on them as one would expect for an item that is over 60 years old. The handles are made of Bakelite and designed to look like stags antlers. The handles themselves vary from darkish brown to lighter tones of brown as stag horns have similar variations in color I believe this was intended to give the antlers a more realistic look. less
