A quirky and well-executed mid-century modernist portrait composition, painted in oil onto board.
In this painting we see an elegantly dressed lady seated in an interior. The colour palette of the picture is rich and vivid, and the brushstrokes are broad and gestural. The yellow of the lady’s dress is echoed throughout the composition, from the tablecloth to the mirror and the curtains behind her. The woman appears fairly reserved, with her hands clasped on her lap, giving her an air of stiffness, which adds to the playfulness of the picture.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
