This Avanyu or Water Serpent design plate in black on black pottery by Maria Martinez and Popovi Da from the San Ildefonso Pueblo was made in August of 1966 (866.) Popovi Da joined his mother to assist her in the 1950s. He died in 1971 after which Maria retired.
This plate is in good original condition with wear consistent with age and use. There are scratches to the burnished finish.
