A historic, remarkable handmade Japanese fan depicting the primordial Gods of the Japanese Shinto religion, whom are believed to have created the islands of Japan and given birth to many of the other Shinto Gods or kami. Their names are: Izanami (‘she who invites’) and Izanagi (‘he who invites’). The myths of Japanese popular religion derive from oral traditions codified for posterity in The Kojiki written by an official of the Empress Gemmyo between 708 and 714 CE.
Fan has fractions of the Kojiki written, in the “dragon”-style calligraphy on front and back.
Made of paper, hand-drawn and written in black ink. All handmade.
Wood frame.
Size: 10.25 inches (26 cm) x 17.5 inches (44 cm).
Condition: The item is in excellent condition for age. Some foxing inherent with age is visible, along with slight discoloration.
This is a collectors’ item, authentic and unique. Many different factors determine prices. First: age, rarity, and condition. Second: aesthetics. Since in Japan the best kimono have always been considered textile art, kimono prices can vary as much as do prices on paintings. Thus, beautiful, rare and unique kimono command a premium.
All items in our shop come from our smoke-free and pet-free boutique collection. Interested buyers are highly encouraged to ask all necessary questions before their purchase. Thank you.
