The case is made of hardwood, with each side having a thin inlaid rectangle of more lightly toned mahogany. Both front and back have a glass-front dial with a silver ring and decorative arrow pointers. This enables both the grocer and customer to see the scale’s measurement. The two plateaux are made of copper, which have taken a lovely, antique patina. The scale was manufactured by Trussant et Cie (Trussant & Co.) in Sainte-Livre, east of Bordeaux.
