This striking anklet, crafted in Cameroon between the early and mid-20th century, served as currency for the Bamum people. Hand-cast using the lost-wax method, the thick copper alloy boasts a beautiful green verdigris patina that accentuates the geometric patterns and open-work details. This large, classic "horseshoe" form features bands of geometric piercings, a central boss, and graduating spiral embellishments, all hallmarks of Bamum artistry.
