This Really is a Great Looking Antique American Stoneware Jug. Circa Mid 19th Century. It is Rendered in a Very Unusual Low Center of Gravity Squat Form - Shape Indicating that it was Intended for Liquors - Spirits. It has a Classic Greige Color Salt Glaze Exterior on a Unusual Red Brick Style Internal Clay Body. It has a Beautiful & Artistically Hand Decorated Deep Blue Stylized Flower Design on the Front. It has No Maker or Liquid Capacity Mark but it Appears to be Just Slightly Larger Than a 1 Gallon Size. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. It is in Very Good All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. No Cracks - No Repairs. Minor Imperfections Noted - Small Chips at the Spout and at The Base Perimeter. There is Also a Very Small Surface Glaze Chip & Spot on The Back Side Below the Handle Area but This is Actually a Kiln Flaw and Would have Occurred in the Making - Firing Process. These Types of Utilitarian Stoneware Items Were Fired in Large Kilns in Batches with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Acquired Blemishes as well as Other are Quite Common.
It Measures Overall Approx. 10 1/2 inches Tall x 9 inches Wide - Long.
