Stunning Italian 19th Century Baroque Style Carved Walnut Figural Throne Armchair, attributed to Valentino Panciera Besarel (Venice, 1829-1902) in the manner of Andrea Brustolon (1662-1732). Besarel studied as a woodcarver in Venice from 1855-1857 and specialized in ornate Baroque designs for furniture frames. Brustolon, is credited with high quality Baroque carvings and devotional sculptures at several Venetian churches, and the Basilica of St. Peter.
The ornately carved antique chair flanked on each side by Venetian blackamoor male figures, each supporting the scroll armrest, the top of each foliate arm carved with a figure of resting putto, or cherub, raised on four cabriolet legs with carvings of male masks, all joined with an X stretcher is carved on the top and sides and topped with a finial. Upholstered. Circa: Venice, 1870.
Gorgeous solid, sturdy walnut chair with nice patina. Minimal wear with age and occasional use.
