An outstanding pair of European Renaissance Gothic grotesque lion stylobate architectural elements.
Early 19th Century or earlier, Continental Europe, most likely Italian, boldly designed and exceptionally executed, each hand carved from a single block of solid wood, richly detailed and fine carving throughout, sculptural figural form modeled with recumbent stylized lion body, head raised and slightly tilted, mouth agape exposing teeth, wavy sculpted mane, in dark rich original patina.
