Vincent Van Gogh ( 1853 - 1890 ) The Dutch Post Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western Art. " Still Life : Vase with irises Against a Yellow Background " stands out as on of Van Gogh's most well known iconic floral still life paintings.

The artwork is unusual in that it's one of the few still lifes painted by Van Gogh during his stay at the asylum in Saint - Remy. he painted still life works throughout his ten year career as an artist from the earliest works, through the final works he created shortly before his death in 1890.

Interestingly, the one period in which Van Gogh produced very few still lifes was during his stay in Saint - remy. Perhaps because the surrounding landscape was so inviting, the olive groves and soaring cypresses were far more interesting to him, who so loved to paint outdoors. Possibly he was anticipating his move from the asylum his home for more than a year to Auvers Sur Oise in the north, where he would rediscover his love of still life painting.

The rare out of print Post Impressionist exhibition poster measures 20" W X 28" H. It is printed on high quality paper stock with a satin finish. It is in excellent " like new " condition consistent with age and light signs of handling. It has never been framed. Please see photos for condition reference.
