An antique English sugar caster made in 1912 by E. S. Barnsley & Co. of Birmingham. The sterling silver sugar caster has an urn-shaped body on top of a stepped circular foot. The removable dome-shaped cover is pierced with trefid and quatrefoil designs under an urn-shaped finial. There are no monograms.
Both elements of the design bear the lion passant mark indicating sterling silver fineness (925/1000) alongside an "n" date mark for 1912. The body bears an additional anchor mark indicating the piece was made in Birmingham and the "ESB" maker's mark of Edward Souter Barnsley & Co., active in Birmingham from 1895-1921.
Very good condition and fully hallmarked, weighing 160 grams / 5.64 oz and measuring 7.25 in. H. Several of the hallmarks are rubbed but readable.
