This is a Great Looking and Quite Rare Piece of Antique American Horse Racing History. This Large Size Chalice is Beautifully Hand Made - Lathe Tuned Out of One Large Solid Block of Indigenous North American Chestnut Wood. Note that The Design of the Chalice Exemplifies the Natural Beauty of the Elaborate Grain and Color Always Associated with Chestnut Wood. The Front is also Beautifully Artist Hand Oil Painted with a Unusual Kentucky Derby - Triple Crown - Run for the Roses Logo that Incorporates 3 Long Stem Red Roses, a Aged Silver Color Horseshoe Bearing the Date of the Race - 1902, and a Fancy Stylize Designed Aged Gold Painted "T C" Monogram. Note that The Year 1902 Was the 28th Running of the Kentucky Derby - Won by Jockey Jimmy Winkfield aboard the Horse Alan-a-Dale. It is in Excellent Overall Condition - Still Retains its Original Wonderful Honey Color Varnish - Displays Beautifully. Minor Imperfection Noted - The Back Side of the Cup has a Very Faint Naturally Aged and Acquired Hairline Crack the Extends Down From the Rim but You Will Have to Look Hard and Close to Find it.
It Measures Overall Approx 9 inches Tall.
4 3/4 inches Wide - Long at Top Rim.
4 5/8 inches Wide - Long at Base.
