The hardcover art book with metallic silver tone laminated cover boards, with special round die-cut cover window is published by Prestel Verlag Publishing Ltd., edited by Stephane Acquin. printed in Canada in 2008 on the occasion of the exhibition " Warhol Live " at The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, De Young in partnership with The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh.
Andy Warhol 9 1928 - 1987 ) is one of the singularly most well known Contemporary artists of all time. His imagery is recognized worldwide. His infamous life, artworks, and creative endeavors are like no other artist. He is credited as the very first artist to use common everyday objects and view them in a completely different way while paying homage to their role in our society. Glorifying the common as the beautiful. His technique utilizing a silkscreen method combined with hand finishing in a signature palette of vibrant color hues make the work stand on its own and loved by millions.
This beautifully produced volume presented to accompany the exciting exhibition reveals the myriad ways Warhol immersed himself in the music of his time. Tracing back to his introduction to music through the musical comedies, songs, and soundtracks of his youth, opening with his portraits of the great film stars of his childhood. The fascinating essays in this volume discuss, Warhol's renowned portraits of Pop Music icons such as Mick Jagger, Debbie Harry, and Grace Jones are just one manifestation of his interest in music.
Warhol collaborated with famous choreographers, served as producer for The Velvet Underground, incorporated music into his films, produced video-clips, designed many record albums, filmed live concerts, and created multimedia spectacles. Although never a musician himself, Warhol appropriated the imagery of Pop Music icon for some of his most arresting and important self portraits. This dynamic book includes more than 400 illustrations, offering a refreshing way to appreciate the talent and evolution of an artist who mirrored society's changing tastes and interests.
The rare out of print 1st edition large format hardcover art book measures 12 1/4" W X 12 1/4" H X 1 1/4" D, with 290 pages, featuring 373 illustrations.
