The fine art lithograph print is published by The New York Graphics Society, printed in The United States in 1972 in an unnumbered limited edition. It features an Abstract Expressionist artwork originally created by Francis in 1958 titled " Blue Out of White ", courtesy of The Joseph H. Hirshhorn Foundation.

Samuel Lewis Francis ( 1923 - 1994 ) was an American Modernist painter and printmaker. he was an important part of the post war Abstract Expressionist movement among fellow artists including Mark Rothko, Joan Mitchell, and Helen Frankenthaler, who were increasingly interested in the expressive use of color. Francis is credited with helping secure international recognition for postwar Abstract American painting. his work has been seen most often and best understood in Europe and Japan.

Artworks by sam Francis have been the subject of more than 200 solo exhibitions. The artworks are included in the international museums collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art New York, The Kunstmuseum Basel, The Idemitsu Museum of Arts Tokyo, and The Centre Pompidou Musee D'Art Moderne Paris among many others.

In the mid 1950's Francis created a succession of monumentally scaled paintings informed by a variety of artistic sources, including Abstract Expressionism and French Impressionism. With their spontaneous brushwork and lyrical interplay of primary hues, these paintings established Francis as one of the foremost colorists of the postwar era.

His love of color stemmed from his time in Paris, where he immersed himself in the art of Monet, Bonnard, and Matisse; however, rather than blending figuration and color as they did, Francis created large, luminous abstractions that were intended to envelop the viewer, as exemplified in " Blue Out of White ", a work that also uses varying hues of blue to create a fluid, lyrical effect.

The rare out of print framed Abstract Expressionist collector's lithograph print measures 35 1/2" W X 32" H X 1" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a classic Modern navy indigo ink blue matte eggshell finish wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.

It is in excellent condition consistent with age and light signs of handling. There is some light minor signs of surface wear, and light signs of aging in the lower bottom margin edge area. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price. less
