This is just a great original piece. I was lucky enough to recently purchase a pair of original rare prints by important American Abstract artist Herbert Schiffrin. Schiffrin was one of the first artists to work in the style called Lyrical Abstraction and was part of the groundbreaking show at the Larry Aldrich Museum in 1970 and his work went on to be displayed and is part of the permanent collection at the Whitney. I have found reviews of solo shows in the New York Times in the 1970s as well as other places but with all that, I have not been able to find a comprehensive biography about the artist. Not exactly sure why but also, there are not too many works out there, and even less of his prints. This is one of 2 prints I am offering by the artist, that I cannot find another example of. Being that they are both Artist Proofs I am wondering if they ever went on to being printed.
This is really a wonderful original Abstract lithograph. The work is on paper measuring 18 1/2 x 27 1/2 inches. Signed lower right and notated AP lower left. Print is in outstanding as printed condition. Some minor rippling to the paper based on the framing but really an outstanding original work. The print is in a simple lucite frame with a stamp from Mol Frameworks in New York on the back (missing a small amount along the edge). I am guessing based on the original Beekman BE3 phone number on the stamp that this print was framed in the 1960s or maybe into the early 1970s. It is really a wonderful scarce early work that quite possibly might be a one of a kind. Frame measures 19 x 28 inches. If you collect or like these Schiffrin works, check my store for the other one I am offering.
