This is just a great original piece. I have been buying more and more fabric arts over the last few years. It is an area of art collecting that is really taking off lately as more and more people recognize the skill and quality of these artists. When I saw this piece, I knew I was going to buy it. It sort of covers both sides of art in that it looks as though it is a painting portrait but in fact it is a remarkable embroidery portrait. This is an incredible work done by Israeli artist Mical Aloni. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included her biography below. This is a stunning view of a couple in love. Embroidery measuring 5 x 4 1/2 inches. Outstanding as created condition. Archival matte and frame and complimentary and ready to hang. On the back of the frame is the original gallery label from the Parks Gallery in Taos NM. Frame measures 12 x 11 1/2 inches. Do your own research on this artist. I have found she was a part of an exhibition in in the Taos Museums and galleries. The most recent record I have found of her was that she was represented in the Smithsonian Craft Show in 2015. Just an incredible piece.
For those not familiar with the artist, her biography from a blog that focuses on fabric arts reads: "Mical Aloni, born in 1963, began embroidering at an early age in an agricultural Kibbutz in northern central Israel. In the Kibbutz girls were expected to sew and make traditional embroidery. Initially, Mical did not excel at it until she broke free from the conventional patterns and started using thread as paint. She created her first original needlepoint at the age of fifteen, a violin cover for her talented musician boyfriend. During Mical’s uncompensated mandatory two year military service she escaped the brutality of military life by embroidering. Thread and cloth were affordable and small enough to hide in her army-issued Golda purse. From the first day of service she secretly worked on a magical piece with dragons and fairies that she completed the day of her honorable discharge.
