Take a look at these rustic chic handcrafted beauties made from barro rojo or red clay, which is a traditional form of pottery made in the borough of San Marcos Tlapazola, in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. In this rural Zapotec village of about 1,100 people, the 300 or so potters are all women who make pottery out of red clay gathered from high in the surrounding mountains, a tradition that has been going on for twenty generations. Each vase is handcrafted so no two are alike and dimensions are approximate. Together the pair weighs 4 lbs. 10 oz. and each vase measures as follows:

Large: 7” x 5” x 5” H/W/D; opening 1¼” diameter
Small: 6” x 4¼” x 4¼” H/W/D; opening 1” diameter

Medium is red clay with a white washed teal greenish finish; unglazed with red clay undertones. In excellent condition with minimal wear; rustic appearance is intentional. I placed felted round tabs on the bottom to protect furniture surfaces. Would not recommend filling with water for live blooms since the pottery is unglazed. Unknown artisan. The perfect pair to display on a bookshelf, small side or entryway table or vanity top.
