This is a printer's proof triptych - a set of three posters showing where each layer of colour will be printed. These preliminary versions proofs allow the artist and producer to approve the quality of the colours prior to ordering a full series of a design. These posters are from a 1989 re-issue of Adolphe Mouron Cassandre's original 1927 design. Featuring a prominent, stylized image of a train, the Nord Express was a sleeper train line launched in 1896 that crossed Europe and the Near-East. This eye-catching poster highlights destinations in France, Latvia, Poland, Belgium, and England in particular.
The artist, Cassandre (né Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron), was a French typeface designer, painter, and commercial poster designer.
This set of posters is in good condition and ready to be framed. There are small pencil notes related to colour in the corners, and several pinholes where the proofs would have been affixed for review. This poster is available at l'Affichiste thanks to Marc Choko, Professor Emeritus at the Université de Québec à Montréal (UQAM) School of Design. A long time collector of posters, Choko has curated exhibitions and published on the subject since the 1980.
