An exquisite pair of hand-painted grotto armchairs by Maitland Smith. This pair will be an excellent addition to any space. … more An exquisite pair of hand-painted grotto armchairs by Maitland Smith. This pair will be an excellent addition to any space. The pair are hand carved and feature a pink and green shell motif on the back. The chairs are painted in a creamy white craquelure with intricate sea motifs painted and accenting throughout. The arms and legs are curled and painted with the most luscious verdigris green scrolled vines. We have never seen a pair like this by Maitland Smith. Most of the handpainted seating that we have seen has been with a chinoiserie motif. So this pair is particularly rare. The cushions are upholstered in a creamy floral pattern. The bottoms have their original Maitland Smith tags, along with the artist's stamp and sticker. This pair is incredibly sturdy and ready for use in a dining room or as accent chairs in a formal living room. (Or perhaps at a desk to add a touch of Hollywood Regency.
