A rare and remarkable original Song (Sung) Dynasty (960-1279) dark turquoise blue glazed earthenware pottery joss stick incense holder. Likely Jun ware, Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127)
Hand-crafted in China over 1000 years ago, the Song dynasty was a golden age of Chinese ceramics when art peaked and techniques matured, renowned for the periods brilliant feldspathic glazes, their emphasis on simplicity of form and understated elegance, this remarkable antique highlighting all those qualities,
featuring early primitive molded sculptural form, the figural censer depicting a foo dog guardian lion on stand with integral joss stick holder, in a deep rich turquoise blue glaze, with beautifully aged warm rich dark patina, lustrous sheen and desirable craquelure.

Excellent coloring, with remarkable warmth, depth, and luminous glow. Wear consistent with age, use, exposure, and handling, including scattered nicks, chips, losses, including tail tip loss, significant buildup, and attractive crazing. As photographed.
