Purchase includes a bamboo ‘Otoshi’ or bamboo insert for holding water.
This basket is made of young bamboo of about three years old (ridges far apart). The artist first split the bamboo to get thin, 1/32 in width, pliable strips of the original bamboo.

Twelve strands of these fine and smooth bamboo form the round base that creates a six pointed star shaped base. While creating the round base the artisan added three additional wide bamboo strands. These wide bamboo strengthen the base and later used as the artist's signature tab. A simple, elegant and contemporary look is achieved by using the same weave pattern from the base to the opening in a beautiful symmetrical shape. Midway, at the 'waist' the weaving becomes tighter and the artist cinches it by adding three additional horizontal strips of wider bamboo.

The closely plaited wider rim is in focus when flowers are placed. Thin strands of bamboo are twisted to create a top handle. The artist deliberatly creates a twist in the handle to add additional interest when flowers are arranged. The elongated top handle frames flowers arranged within. Hand lacquered in a dark brown to smooth finish
