Here is a stunning, sculpture by Eugene-Louis Lequesne (1815-1887) made of bronze in the mid 19th century on a veigned, … Read more Here is a stunning, sculpture by Eugene-Louis Lequesne (1815-1887) made of bronze in the mid 19th century on a veigned, salmon pink marble base. Lequesne, a French sculptor, lived and worked in Paris. He is a renowned artist with several sculptures throughout France - too many to list here. The piece is signed, as you can see, on the lower part of the sculptural figure of a faun playing the flute. You can really feel the movement and exuberance of his song, as he appears almost suspended in air, with leg and arms lifted. On each side of the main sculpture are matching inkwell pots. They are equally impressive with ornate details and figurative shells as the lid pulls. The base itself, sits on 4 marble spheres with central recessed tray for pens, etc and a beautiful carved edge.
