The screen is hand-painted on silk with a gorgeous, luxe gold background. The hanaguruma motif is a traditional Japanese motif that symbolizes wealth and good fortune. It became popular in the 9th century, as noble families would decorate their carts with flowers and parade them around Kyoto. This particular screen features 4 folding panels, that can be closed. The back is finished in a lovely Japanese paper. There is a coordinating gold trim and the art piece is signed on the lower, right hand side.
