An incredible pair of custom-made fire-breathing wrought iron Dragon Andirons with open mouths and tongues extended, detailed ears and eyes … Read more An incredible pair of custom-made fire-breathing wrought iron Dragon Andirons with open mouths and tongues extended, detailed ears and eyes and wings spread and ready to take flight, in the manner of Samuel Yellin of Bucks County, PA, who made a number of dragon architectural elements, including chandeliers, sconces, lamps and fireplace elements. These were found in Bucks County and although unmarked, certainly have the stature and quality typical of Yellin's work. Probably made in the 50's or 60's, the fire dogs were shortened at a later date, probably to fit in a narrower fireplace. They could easily be re-extended but I believe these should sit in front of the fireplace and not in it--more of a decorative statement. log grate could be used inside the firebox with these out front. They are very heavy, each weighing approximately 10-15 pounds. They measure 13" wide from their paw feet, 18" deep and 21" tall. These one of a kind hand wrought Dragons would make any fireplace the focus of the room. See less
