Royal Copley was made by the Spaulding China Company of Sebring, Ohio, from 1939–1960. Originally string holders were used commercially at stores to wrap purchases in brown paper and tied up with string.

Before plastic bags and wrap, scissor and string holders were needed to tie up meats, wrap sandwiches and more. Most homes before the 1940’s had a character-face string holder in their kitchen. For home use, these holders were sold at nickel-and-dime stores during the 1940s and 1950s. Royal Copely porcelains from this time are now highly collectible. See less
