It is one of the most impressive pieces by ceramist Fernand Elchinger. This large vase opens and flares like the petals of a flower or the wings of a bird, in a free-form spirit. This ceramic plays with balance and material. Imposing, it is no less filled with a fragile lightness, full of finesse between the mineral and the organic. This piece is an exceptional mid-century production. It is often called the “nun’s cornette”, the start of its production dates from 1952.
The vase is in good condition, a discreet shine on the lower edge and some superficial traces of friction are visible. The piece bears an intaglio handwritten signature. This large jug is often called the “Nun’s Cornette”, here in a rather rare version with chalk white and brilliant green enamel.
