Victor Vasarely (1906–1997) was a pioneering Hungarian-French artist often called the "grandfather of the Op Art movement." He is renowned for his geometric abstract paintings that manipulate optical illusions and visual perception, which defined the movement.
This abstract silk screen, commonly referred to as "Red and Green Circles," captivates viewers with its vibrant interplay of color and geometric shapes. The dynamic arrangement of contrasting red and green circles creates a visually stimulating composition that draws the eye inwards, inviting contemplation and interpretation. Vasarely's meticulous execution and mastery of optical illusion techniques imbue the artwork with a sense of depth and movement, leaving a lasting impression on observers.
Originally, this magnificent example of Op Art hung in the home of prominent New York collectors who willed in to their daughter. It has hung in place if pride in her Howard County, MD. home until now when health concerns force her to significantly downsize to a nursing home.
