The “London” design was first produced in the early 18th century, about 100 years before the production date of this set. This generation of “London“ plates is marked Spode with a register number of 2638. “London” was designed to fill in missing pieces of Chinese export porcelain services. The first rendition of the plates was completely hand done, but by 1817, the blue mythical creatures and flowers along the rim were transfers, the “iron red “ was printed enamel and the remainder was hand painted and gilded. These plates measure 8.5” diameter.
These plates are in good original condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is wear to the enamel and gilding.
