An excellent rare original extra large Japanese History School poster. It came with a collection of 18 posters published in Japan, which were banned after the end of WW2 by the general headquarters of the allied forces. It was used in Japan, before the end of WWII. Published between early 1900s and 1940s. Brought to the US by a military staff member stationed in Japan after WW2. Good condition - age and edge wear.
The signature on this print says: Yoshio Kuranosuke Oishi and his fellows set off for revenge for his master’s disgrace. This is known as Chushingura:忠臣蔵, fathful servant, Kura(nosuke). Oishi & his fellows are famous as models of faithful servants who spent their lives to restore their master’s honor. Hollywood movie "47 Ronin", starring Keanu Reeves, is based on this amazing story.
