Wonderful Japanese Kutani ware vase.
Marked on the bottom.
The porcelain vase of shaped baluster form, the surface profusely decorated with floral patterns of chrysanthemums in varying tones of orange and gold gilt glazes.
This Satsuma vase was manufactured in Japan the Meiji style and was produced for export to Western markets. Earlier pieces of Satsuma stem from as early as 1600, but are less elaborate in design. It is later examples, such as this, that became one of the most recognised export wares of the period. Today, they continue to be highly collected owing to their decorative appeal.
