Executed in fine cloisonné enamel on a silver body, this vase exemplifies the refined craftsmanship associated with the Ando workshop in mid-century Japan.
A pale blue ground provides a serene field for delicate iris blossoms, their petals modeled with subtle shading and defined by precise wirework. The polished rims and elegant baluster form reflect the workshop’s focus on presentation-quality metalwork.
An underside inscription dates the piece to Showa 36 (1961), situating it within Ando’s period of commemorative and exhibition production. Paired with its wood stand, the vase presents as a formal art object intended for cabinet display and connoisseurship.
Provenance details unknown; acquired directly from a Northern California collection.
