This really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Spirits Jug. Circa Mid 19th Century. It is Not Marked as Such but it is an Approx 1 Gallon Size. It is Embossed - Signed by the Maker "A. B. Wheeler & Co. Boston Mass." It has a Classic American Salt Glaze Exterior. The Front of the Jug has a Hand Decorated Blue Stylized Flower Decoration. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of Jugs were Commonly Used to Store Liquids such as Ciders, Vinegar, Ales, Liquors & Spirits, Spring Water Etc. It is in Very Good Overall Original Condition and it Displays Nicely. It has a Few Very Small Spout Chips ( Quite Common with These Types of Jugs ). No Cracks and No Repairs. It Does Have an Assortment of Exterior - Surface Only Glaze Imperfections, Glaze Color Variations & Stains - Spots Etc. All of which are Either Age and Use Related or Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable if so Desired.
It Measures Overall Approx. 11 1/4 Tall x 7 1/4 Inches Long - Wide.
By the Way Did you know that These Types of Stoneware Pieces were Completely and Individually Hand Made - Hand Thrown on a Potter's Wheel ?.
