The hand-painted decoration centers on a traditional Breton courting scene, with a seated man playing the bagpipe beside a Breton woman, both dressed in regional costume.
The central scene is framed by a richly patterned border painted in deep cobalt blue, green, yellow, and orange, with stylized foliate motifs characteristic of Quimper pottery. At the top, the Brittany coat of arms adds a strong regional reference, while the front is signed “Henriot Quimper.” The underside is further marked “Henriot Quimper 134.”
The platter retains its original hanging device on the reverse for wall display. Its sculptural outline, vivid palette, and detailed figural decoration make it a particularly decorative example of early 20th century Quimper faience.
Henriot Quimper traces its origins to the long tradition of tin-glazed pottery produced in Quimper, Brittany, where workshops became especially known for colorful hand-painted scenes of Breton figures, regional costumes, floral motifs, and heraldic decoration.
The antique platter is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with light surface wear and minor irregularities consistent with hand-painted faience.
