A characterful mid-century modernist style still life oil composition, painted onto canvas.

At the heart of the painting lies a table setting adorned with a striking juxtaposition of elements: a fish and a bouquet of flowers. The fish rests atop a vibrant red cloth which surface is filled with creases and folds, lending depth and dynamism to the scene.

The artist has skilfully reduced the composition down to angular blocks of contrasting colours, emphasising the inherent geometry of the scene.

The colour palette is rich and vivid, lending a striking quality to the painting, and the expressive brushstrokes have been confidently and swiftly applied. Furthermore, by leaving areas of the canvas exposed, the artist’s creative use of negative space accentuates the shapes of the figure and objects, drawing our attention to their distinct form.
