Antique Tramp Art Studded Sewing Box with Brass Nailhead "Emma" Detail, Circa Late 19th-Early 20th Century. A masterpiece in the tramp art tradition, the entire surface of this storage box is constructed from individually carved and applied square-cut studs. Each “stud” is nailed to the wood body with small-scale brass nails, as well as a small detail in nailheads at the front of the lid that reads “EMMA”. The box has one main interior compartment complete with sliding till storage. Every detail has been considered, from the lid modeled after a roof, to the paw feet at the base. We believe the box would have had two side handles similar to its companion box in the collection (with one potentially repurposed atop the lid at some point in its life). Originally designed as a sewing box, but functions perfectly for small-scale storage. Unsigned.
