What is originally a traditional carpenter’s hammer takes on the appearance of a cross, combining the practicality of an everyday object with the symbolic function of the cross. With the same tool it is possible to drive a nail into a wall, and then hang the cross/hammer onto a wall, ready in waiting for its next use.
