Clyfford Still ( 1904 - 1980 ) was among the first generation of Abstract Expressionists who developed a new powerful approach to painting immediately following WWII. His contemporaries included Franz Kline, Willem De Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Jackson Pollock & Mark Rothko. Described by many as the most anti - traditional of the Abstract Expressionists. The work is credited for laying the groundwork for the movement.
