It originally appeared … Read more This is an original French fashion print for a Pierre Balmain evening dress that dates to 1947. It originally appeared in a Mid-Century French haute couture fashion magazine. It is rare to find as the magazine had limited circulation at the time. It is the 1st time we have this print in our many years of collecting. The illustrated print is signed by the well-acclaimed fashion illustrator, Rene Gruau, with his signature initial. Gruau is perhaps the most iconic fashion artist of the 20th century. He is best known for his use of strong contrasting color and his identifiable graphic sense of line drawing and styling. In this image he works with a sense of humor as well. Note the full draping of the dress with its black hooded top with long slender sleeves that finish with long gloves. Note too the sash at the waist with it double corsage-like pink and lilac blossoms. The elegant and glamorous Balmain creation is modeled within a barn setting with gawking farmers and attentive barn animals captivated by the beauty of the fashion model. The accompanying text described the design as a "Peasant Gown". This is perfect wall decor for today's fashionista with a sense of humor! The print is in pristine condition! 8.25 x 11 inches in size.
